Caring for Victims of Abuse

Services for Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Human Trafficking Victims and Survivors

YWCA Kalamazoo represents the voices of victims and survivors of violence (domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking); provide high quality comprehensive programs and education that create change, increase understanding of the impact of violence, and develop collaborative and community action initiatives to identify and address root causes of violence. We strive to help survivors lead lives free of violence.

Affordable Counseling and Supportive Legal Services

YWCA Kalamazoo is dedicated to promoting healing of survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Victim Services provides free, one-on-one counseling and victim advocacy to sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking survivors. Additionally, we offer a variety of free support groups for survivors of both domestic violence and sexual assault. These are held in English and Spanish. All groups meet at the YWCA of Kalamazoo, 353 East Michigan Avenue (unless otherwise noted). Childcare is available for ALL meetings.  Contact a YWCA Advocate/Counselor to arrange for childcare.

We have a full legal team including an attorney, case managers and paralegal on staff. Our legal department provides advocacy and legal support to survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and human trafficking.

The YWCA has a 24-hour emergency abuse crisis line covered by YWCA staff. This is typically the first step a victim/survivor takes to access the services provided by the YWCA. In addition, volunteers throughout the community provide supportive services to sexual assault victims through Nurse Examiner facilities.
