COUNSELING & SUPPORT GROUPS

YWCA Kalamazoo is dedicated to promoting healing of survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking. Victim Services provides free, one-on-one counseling and victim advocacy to sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking survivors. Additionally, we offer a variety of free support groups for survivors of both domestic violence and sexual assault. These are held in English and Spanish. All groups meet at the YWCA of Kalamazoo, 353 East Michigan Avenue (unless otherwise noted). Childcare is available for ALL meetings.  Contact a YWCA Advocate/Counselor to arrange for childcare.

Tuesday

Baby Bump Peer Support Group 1:00pm – 2:30pm

Join us for a peer support group for all families in Kalamazoo County. This group offers fun, hands-on activities, education on pre and postnatal topics, engages parents and caretakers with relevant subjects, and offers one-on-one support to those who attend! The group uses knowledgeable specialists from all over to demonstrate various skills and educational themes that will assist parents in how to teach, bond, and interact with their children. There will be child care provided for all youngsters when play groups are not scheduled, so please feel free to bring your children.

Violence Based Trauma Support Group 3:30pm – 5:00pm

A safe, open space for survivors of violence based trauma and their families and/or support systems to talk about their common experience and enhance coping skills for dealing with the trauma.

Domestic Assault Support Group 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Join other survivors for this open, ongoing support group. A non-judgmental and supportive environment fosters self-empowerment and emotional healing for survivors of domestic abuse.

LGBTQ Survivors of Sexual Assault/Abuse 5:15pm – 6:15pm

OutFront Kalamazoo, 340 S. Rose, Kalamazoo

A safe, open space for survivors of any form of sexual assault who identify as LGBTQ+ to come and talk about their common experience. LGBTQ Safe Space.

Sexual Assault Support Group 6:00pm – 7:30pm

This is an open group which provides a safe place for victims to come together to discuss sexual assault and tools to begin the healing process.

Wednesday

Making It Real Parenting Class 10:00am

This is a nine week parenting class open to survivors of domestic abuse, substance abuse or other crisis situations; who are raising children, experiencing CPS involvement, or want to gain positive parenting skills.
